South African songstress Kelly Khumalo finds herself in a challenging spot within the music industry, grappling with a decline in gig opportunities amid controversy surrounding her association with individuals implicated in the tragic killing of her late partner, Senzo Meyiwa.
In recent developments, two out of the five individuals accused in connection with the murder of the former football star disclosed that they received payment of R100,000 for their involvement, allegedly orchestrated by Khumalo herself.
The incident unfolded in October 2014, when Meyiwa was fatally shot in the chest during what was supposed to be a casual gathering at the Khumalo family residence in Vosloorus. Khumalo, along with Meyiwa and other companions, were present when the fatal intrusion occurred.
As revelations regarding Khumalo’s purported involvement surfaced, promoters in the entertainment scene have grown hesitant to engage her services, apprehensive that her association may cast a shadow over their events.
“Following the shocking disclosures, promoters have taken a step back. They are wary of being associated with Khumalo amidst the ongoing court proceedings. Several bookings have been rescinded due to the unfolding drama,” disclosed an insider familiar with the matter.
An anonymous artist shared their experience, recounting a canceled performance alongside Khumalo, highlighting the abrupt withdrawal from the event.
While Khumalo outwardly portrays resilience, insiders reveal the toll the situation has taken on her privately. Despite attempting to maintain composure amidst mounting scrutiny, the strain is evident as she navigates through the turbulent aftermath.
The ongoing trial involves Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, and Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli, who stand accused in connection with Meyiwa’s tragic demise.
Of particular significance, Ntanzi and Sibiya’s confessions shed light on Khumalo’s alleged involvement, further compounded by incriminating cellphone records linking her to the suspects.
