Family of Six Killed in Fiery Tsitsikamma Car Crash
STORMS RIVER NEWS — A tragic accident claimed the lives of six family members from Kwazekele, Gqeberha, on Sunday. The family, including two young boys aged one and three, perished in a devastating head-on collision near Storms River.
The accident occurred near the N2 -9 21,6E marker, close to Storms River and Humansdorp. The family was traveling in a Mini Cooper, heading towards the Western Cape, when their vehicle collided with a Toyota Rav4 traveling in the opposite direction towards the Eastern Cape.
On impact, the Mini Cooper overturned and burst into flames, resulting in the immediate deaths of all six occupants. According to a media statement issued by Eastern Cape police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu on behalf of the Eastern Cape Police Commissioner, the deceased have been identified as:
- Sandile Patrick (38), the driver
- Noyakhe Regina Heleni (71)
- Thembela Heleni (51)
- Zikhona Heleni (27)
- Kungane Heleni (3)
- Azingce Heleni (1)
The occupants of the Toyota Rav4, a male and female tourist from Dubai, sustained minor injuries in the crash. Initial reports by roads department authorities mistakenly identified the tourists as being from Switzerland, but this was later corrected by Colonel Naidu.
The horrific accident occurred around 17:30 on a stretch of the N2 highway in Tsitsikamma. Simon Zwane, spokesperson for the Road Traffic Management Corporation, provided details on Monday,
