‘Scandal!’ star Nomvelo Makhanya launches music career as a DJ
Nomvelo Makhanya Ventures into DJing After Success in Acting
Nomvelo Makhanya, the South African Film and Television Award (Safta) winning actress known for her role in the popular TV show Scandal!, has embarked on a new career path in the music industry as a DJ.
In an interview with TshisaLIVE, Makhanya revealed her long-standing interest in music, which dates back to her time working with DJ Black Coffee’s former record label, Soulistic.
The actress-turned-musician shared that she initially explored her vocal talents in the studio but gradually gravitated towards DJing. She described her journey as a period of learning and self-discovery, collaborating with various individuals within the music scene. Despite parting ways with Soulistic, Makhanya is now ready to unveil her musical style to her fans.
“The music inspired me, and [it] doesn’t matter whether I’m singing, acting, or DJing. I’m healing people through that. My talent in acting would heal people in their homes and educate viewers. The same goes for my music or DJing career; it delivers the same energy,” said Makhanya.
She primarily focuses on Afrotech and Afrohouse genres and hinted at the imminent release of her singles. Makhanya encouraged her followers to stay tuned to her social media for updates on her new music.
Taking a break from her nine-year tenure as Lindiwe on Scandal!, Makhanya expressed the need to step away from the character for personal reasons. However, she has not abandoned her acting roots entirely, as she continues to audition and hopes to land new roles.
“But I’m back attending auditions. I miss acting, I’m crossing my fingers for something,” she added.
