✅ Requirements

  • 🎓 Education: Grade 9 / AET Level 4
  • 💼 Experience: 5–10 years as a Cleaner in a hospital environment
  • 🛠️ Skills/Knowledge/Competencies:
  • Basic understanding of policies: Batho Pele Principles, Patients’ Rights Charter, Occupational Health and Safety, Six Priorities, and National Core Standards/Ideal Hospital Framework
  • Knowledge of cleaning procedures and health systems

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to liaise with internal/external stakeholders and communicate across levels
  • Self-motivated with the ability to handle multidisciplinary tasks independently and in a team
  • High reliability, confidentiality, and customer service skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, take initiative, and handle intensive labor practices
  • Willingness to rotate within the scope of work and work shifts (day, night, weekends, public holidays)
  • Prepared to undergo medical surveillance as an inherent job requirement

📋 Duties

  • Supervise Cleaners: Ensure staff are on duty, report absenteeism, manage attendance registers, and update cleaning rosters
  • Training: Ensure Cleaners attend training (including in-service training)
  • Daily Inspections: Check cleanliness in wards, offices, corridors, elevators, steps, kitchens, boardrooms, toilets, bathrooms, and restrooms
  • Equipment & Materials: Ensure proper use of color-coded equipment/materials, maintain and store cleaning machines, and report broken equipment for repairs

  • Waste Management: Replace refuse bags (transparent for general waste, red for medical waste), report issues like non-collection of waste or dirty surroundings
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure subordinates wear protective clothing (gloves, masks, goggles, aprons) and use fully equipped janitor trolleys

  • Ordering Supplies: Order and issue cleaning materials, chemicals, and refuse bags on time
  • Documentation: File daily checklists for National Core Standards (NCS) inspections
  • Staff Management: Provide guidance, evaluate subordinates (PMDS), motivate staff, improve morale, implement teamwork, and handle disciplinary actions (verbal/written warnings, reporting to Labour Relations)
