RIP: School ‘Deeply Affected’ by Shebeshxt’s Daughter’s Passing
In a tragic turn of events, Limpopo-born artist Shebeshxt (real name Lehlogonolo Chauke) is mourning the loss of his nine-year-old daughter, Onthatile Gladys Chuene, following a devastating car accident. The accident occurred on the R37 road near Smelters Mine in Limpopo, involving Shebeshxt’s Volkswagen Polo, which collided with a truck and overturned.
Northern Academy’s Statement
Northern Academy, where Onthatile was a cherished Grade 3 learner, released a heartfelt statement expressing their deep sorrow over her passing:
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Onthatile Chuene, a cherished Grade 3 learner at our school. Onthatile passed away on 8 June 2024, and our entire Northern Academy family is deeply affected by this loss.
During this difficult time, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Onthatile’s family, friends, and all who knew her. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate this unimaginable loss.”
Accident Scene Videos Go Viral
Social media has been flooded with videos from the accident scene. One clip shows the covered body of a child lying next to Shebeshxt’s damaged vehicle. Another video depicts the rapper receiving medical attention on the ground, with bandages on his head and right foot, as he moans in pain and pleads for water.
Julius Malema’s Intervention
Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has stepped in to assist Shebeshxt with his medical expenses. According to a source who spoke to Sunday World, Shebeshxt, who lacks medical aid, was initially taken to a public hospital where he received inadequate attention.
The source revealed:
“Fearing that he could lose his life, Julius Malema was then called, and he demanded that Shebe be taken to Netcare Pholoso Hospital, a private healthcare facility in Polokwane, to get medical help.”
Malema is reportedly covering Shebeshxt’s hospital bills and has pledged to continue doing so. Shebeshxt was one of the performers at the EFF manifesto in Soweto in March this year.
Attempts to obtain comments from the EFF and Shebeshxt’s management have, so far, been unsuccessful. The artist and his family are in deep mourning as they come to terms with this devastating loss.
