Tragedy has struck the Soweto community as five young children have died after allegedly consuming snacks purchased from local spaza shops. The childrenβ€”Zinhle Maama, 7; Njabulo Msimango, 7; Karabo Rampou, 8; Isago Mabote, 8; and Monica Sathekge, 6β€”are reported to have eaten a snack known as “brown dash” over the weekend.

In a devastating turn of events, the children fell ill shortly after eating the snacks, with their parents confirming they had bought the items from two nearby spaza shops. A sixth child, Katleho Olifant, 7, is currently fighting for his life in ICU at a private hospital in Soweto. His mother, Lydia Olifant, shared her fears with News24, revealing that doctors said it would be a miracle if he survived.

As the community mourns the heartbreaking loss, locals have responded by shutting down the spaza shops where the children allegedly bought the snacks. This tragedy has left many in shock, and the families of the deceased are in deep mourning.
