Rebecca Malope is not her real name

Rebecca Malope, the well-known gospel singer, is making headlines because her true age has been revealed. She’s famous for her uplifting music, often called the queen of African gospel.

Over the years, she’s released an impressive 35 albums, selling over 10 million copies worldwide. Her songs touch the heart and deepen one’s faith.

Born in 1968 as Batsogile Lovederia Malope, her journey to fame wasn’t easy. Raised in poverty in Lekazi near Nelspruit, Mpumalanga Province, she faced challenges from a young age. At one point, she was even confined to a wheelchair due to illness. Despite the odds, she eventually recovered and regained her mobility.

Growing up in a struggling family, Rebecca learned to hustle early. At 18, she and her sister Cynthia traveled long distances on foot from Mpumalanga to Evaton in search of work.

Rebecca’s big break came in 1985 when she entered the Shell Road To Fame contest with her band. Although they didn’t make it past the first round, she returned the following year as a solo artist and won the Female Vocalist category.

This victory marked the start of her successful music career. With the support of her producer Sizwe Zako and manager Peter Tiadi, she released her breakthrough album “Sthembike Kuwe.”

Since then, Rebecca has been a hitmaker in the music industry. She’s received numerous accolades, including honorary doctorates from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and the University of California, for her positive impact on music.
