Remuneration:
Institution Phase (Basic Training in the Academies):
- Stipend: R4500 per month
Probation Phase (After Training in the Academies):
- Salary Notch: R216,033 per annum
- Appointees will receive applicable service benefits from the probation phase.
Core Functions:
Upon successful completion of training, Police Trainees will:
- Prevent, combat, and investigate crime.
- Maintain public order.
- Protect and secure the inhabitants of the Republic and their property.
- Uphold and enforce the law.
Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP):
The 21-month Basic Police Development Learning Programme consists of three phases:
1. Induction Phase:
- Duration: 1 month at a designated police station.
- Stipend: R4500 per month.
2. Basic Training Phase:
- For Matriculants/Graduates (Other Specializations):
Duration: 8 months at a designated SAPS Academy.
Stipend: R4500 per month. - For Law Graduates:
Duration: 6 months at a designated SAPS Academy.
Stipend: R4500 per month.
3. Probation Phase:
- Duration: 12 months post-basic training.
- Salary: R216,033 per annum.
- Trainees receive free training gear, meals, accommodation, and medical aid benefits during the 21-month program.
- Successful completion leads to potential permanent appointment as Constables in the SAPS.
Requirements:
Applicants must:
- Be South African citizens with permanent residence (proof required).
- Hold a Grade 12 certificate or equivalent (proof required).
- Have a valid driverβs license (advantageous).
- Be proficient in English and at least one other official language.
- Be 18 to 35 years old (proof required).
- Have no criminal convictions (background checks and fingerprint verification will be conducted).
- Not have visible tattoos while wearing any uniform.
- Be willing to take the oath of office.
- Pass a physical medical examination and be found physically and mentally fit.
- Undergo a psychological assessment to meet the profile of a police official.
- Be willing to serve anywhere in South Africa.
Selection Process:
All applicants will be subjected to the following:
- Fitness Test
- Psychometric and Integrity Testing
- Medical Evaluation
- Interviews
- Verification of Qualifications, Driverβs License (if applicable), and Citizenship
- Background and Security Screening (including reference checks and fingerprint verification).
Note: Applicants previously dismissed from a Government Department due to misconduct will not be considered.

- The SAPS Act, 1995 (Act No 68 of 1995) governs the appointment process.
