The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the global organization of national parliaments, is offering a rewarding internship opportunity in New York for graduate students in international relations, political science, or public administration.

This 3-6 month internship, based at the IPU Office of the Permanent Observer to the United Nations, provides a unique chance to contribute to promoting democratic governance, institutions, and values globally.

The IPU collaborates with parliaments and parliamentarians to address the needs and aspirations of the people, working towards peace, democracy, human rights, gender equality, youth empowerment, and sustainable development.

Join the IPU in shaping global governance through political dialogue, cooperation, and parliamentary action.

The intern will assist with regular activities of the office, including

  •  follow designated meetings at the United Nations and prepare reports,

  •  help organize parliamentary meetings at the United Nations,

  •  conduct research on major global issues – including peace-building and democratic practice, sustainable development and human rights.

  •  outreach to US Congress.

You will gain experience

  •  Following and reporting accurately on discussions and events at the UN

  •  Communicating with IPU staff in NY and Geneva, and with parliamentarians internationally

  •  Engaging Members of Congress where possible.

Requirements

  •  Graduate with a BA or MA in Political Science, International Relations, Law, Development Studies or related field; current students who can demonstrate consistent availability will be considered.

  •  Fluent in English, proficiency in an additional language (French, Spanish) an asset
  •  Exceptional organization skills and keen attention to detail

  •  Familiarity with US politics and operations on the Hill an advantage

  •  Ability to work independently and produce reports in a timely fashion

Remuneration

A monthly allowance of US$1500 (pro-rated if less than 37.5 hours)
