The United Nations Secretary-General has entrusted this crucial responsibility to the Representative of the Secretary-General for the investment of the assets (RSG), with support from the Office of Investment Management (OIM).

OIM manages an impressive $80+ billion multi-asset class global investment portfolio, with a focus on actively managing 85% in-house.

As a leader of the Sustainable Investment Team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the Fund’s commitment to sustainability.

The portfolio includes global equities, fixed income, foreign exchange, private equity, real estate, infrastructure, timber, and commodities.

Join our diverse team based in New York, comprising professionals from over 30 countries, and contribute to making a positive impact on a global scale. Reporting to the Chief Investment Officer, this position invites you to be at the forefront of sustainable investment leadership.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority and under the guidance of the Chief Investment Officer, the Investment Officer/Team Lead will be responsible for the following duties:

1. Supports the RSG and CIO in developing the sustainable investment policy and impact investing approach.

Implements the sustainable investment strategy in collaboration with the investment teams. a. Recommends the sustainable investment policy and strategies

b. Implements the sustainable investment strategy in collaboration with the investment teams and monitors portfolio to achieve the ESG performance to meet the Funds ESG objectives by reviewing both portfolio and benchmark ESG performance on a regular basis.

c. Ensures that all of the investments are in compliance with OIM’s investment and policy guidelines.

d. Conducts ESG portfolio review periodically and presents in the internal committees when requested.

2. Conducts careful and thorough sustainable investment research and due diligence.

a. Performs sustainable analysis through sustainability statements, corporate announcements, market news and other publicly available information.

b. Reviews ESG research and discuss with various stakeholders, including ESG providers, industry participants, asset managers, industry standard setters 

 3. Makes specific sustainable and impact investment recommendations to the CIO.

a. Ensures the Fund’s four investments criteria: i.e. safety, profitability, liquidity, and convertibility.

b. Makes specific ESG strategy recommendations to achieve optimum ESG performance with careful review of the portfolio’s investment objectives and risk tolerance, in particular regarding climate objectives. c. Presents and discusses ESG recommendations to the Senior Investment Officer of the relevant asset class/region

Education

Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Business and Administration (MBA), Finance, Economics or related field is required.

A first-degree level university degree in combination with two additional years of experience in investment management may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Certifications or course work in ESG is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.

Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
