“Is my mom dead?” These were the last four words 14-year-old Lungelo Mnisi wrote on a piece of paper from her hospital bed few hours before she died kiIIed by her own father.

This is an incredibly tragic and heartbreaking story. It’s devastating to see the consequences of domestic violence, especially when it leads to such senseless loss of life.

Lungelo’s last words, asking about her mother’s fate, speak volumes about the pain and confusion she must have been feeling in her final moments. It’s truly heartbreaking to imagine the fear and trauma she experienced.

The bravery and strength Lungelo showed throughout her ordeal are commendable, from undergoing multiple surgeries to fighting for her life in the hospital. Her written statement to the police is a testament to her courage and determination to seek justice, even in the face of such unimaginable suffering.

The addition of another murder charge against the suspect, Mandla Sibiya, underscores the severity of his actions and the need for accountability in cases of domestic violence. It’s crucial that perpetrators are held accountable for their crimes and that measures are taken to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.

My heart goes out to Lungelo’s family and loved ones as they navigate this unimaginable loss. Losing a child is a pain no parent should ever have to endure, and to experience this loss in such a violent and traumatic manner is truly devastating. I hope they find the strength and support they need to cope with their grief and that justice is served for Lungelo and her mother.
